Anti Slip Treatments
Safe floors are now becoming a mandatory requirement for businesses’ and it’s not before time. Health and safety in any sector is massively important and our Anti Slip Floor treatments are designed to be a cost-effective way of improving floor safety.
Total slip solutions are the authorised distributor and approved installer of Bonnasystems products, and certified installer of Dr Schutz products. Every floor is different and our anti-slip treatments are not a ‘one product fits all’. Through a consultancy visit, we can obtain the necessary information, allowing us to make an informed decision as to the most suitable option for your floor.
Anti-Slip treatments are a proven cost-effective way of making in-situ floors safer. Not only does it save costs on replacing the floor but also the ripping up of the old floor surface and the negative impact that has on the environment, that is without including the labour cost of both.
There is only one way that your business can know if you need an Anti-Slip Treatment applied to your floor and that is to have a Pendulum Test conducted on the floor. If these values come in below the required level then we can recommend an anti-slip treatment to improve the safety levels of the flooring surface.

Types of Treatments
Anti-Slip Treatments
Treatments are designed for and used primarily on stone & tiled surfaces (mineral surfaces). They work by reacting with the surface of the floor, thus adjusting its micro-texture and in turn, increase the slip resistance levels. These type of treatments are especially useful around a poolside, during the process we are able to remove the unsightly build-up of calcium/limescale deposits on the pool deck tiles and leave the client with a aesthetically pleasing safer floor.
Coatings
Sensitive surfaces such as marble or glossed tiles, or Vinyl flooring the best approach to increase slip resistance levels would be a coating, which includes an aggregate. Topical PU sealers are used to increase the Co-efficient of Friction levels by applying an anti-slip sealant on top of the existing surface. This increases the surface roughness and the PTV levels, making the floor safer. Coatings involve preparation of the floor, cleaning of the floor and then adequate post application curing time. UV curing options are available for clients that can not allow downtime in operations. ESD sealers are also available.
Mechanical - Blasting
Mechanical blasting involves blasting the flooring surface with an aggregate, brushes or pads to increase CoF levels. The substrate and environment will determine the blast profile required. Can be effective in Commercial Kitchen areas but would be more commonly used for external works.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do we clean the floor after the PU Sealer is applied?
The traditional mop and bucket is a complete waste of time as you are essentially spreading the dirt to a different area of the flooring surface, rather than actually cleaning it.
Cleaning a treated floor depends on a number of factors such as the floor surface, the sealer used, the footfall on the floor, the area/business the floor is installed in. Once the coating has been applied we will recommend how the floor should be correctly cleaned and maintained.
How long will the coating on the treated floor last for?
All floors and floor surfaces have an expected life span and topical sealers are no different. The lifespan of the sealer is based on a number of factors including the footfall, environment and how well the floors are maintained and cleaned. If the floor is not cleaned properly they may become contaminated and slippy again even after the sealer has been added.
After the treatment will the floor be non-slip?
It is impossible to guarantee a floor will be 100% non-slip, however, after any of the above treatments a floors slip resistance (PTV) levels can be greatly increased. This means the floor surface can have an increased level of slip resistance and a greater level of safety for both staff and customers.
What surfaces can be treated?
There are a variety of different surfaces that can be treated. As mentioned above some treatments are perfect for poolside’s as they breakdown the calcium build-ups. Floor surfaces such as Marble, Porcelain, Ceramic,Vinyl,Lino and Timber can be treated using a topical PU sealer. Outdoor surfaces such as pavements, limestone, granite and footpaths can be treated using the mechanical methods of blasting.
